Founded by Engineers Who've Been in Your Shoes

atas.aero was created to solve a problem we lived first hand: aircraft cabin inspections consume skilled technician hours, produce inconsistent documentation, and struggle to scale across growing fleets. We know this because we've managed maintenance organisations, led technical teams, and spent decades in the very hangars where these inspections happen.

The Journey from Wrench to Robot

Mark Bunting, Founder

Mark's aviation career began on the hangar floor in 1990 as an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer with the Royal New Zealand Air Force. Over eight years, he progressed from hands-on maintenance to team leadership, learning what it really takes to keep aircraft serviceable under operational pressure.

That foundation led to roles across the global aviation industry—from Air New Zealand's engineering operations in Auckland to contract maintenance in the UK, from MRO technical services at SR Technics to senior leadership positions managing mixed-fleet operations for commercial airlines.

Two people standing on a tiled sidewalk with a message on the ground reading "PASSION LED US HERE." The way that the aircraft inspection project was initiated.

The pattern was always the same: brilliant engineers performing routine visual inspections when they should be solving complex maintenance challenges. Inconsistent documentation. Time pressure. Skilled labour doing work that technology could handle better.
